The Pumari Chhish , also known as Pumarikish or Peak 11 , is a 7492  m high mountain of Hispar Muztagh in the Karakoram .

location

The mountain is about 4 km east of Kunyang Chhish , the second highest mountain of Hispar Muztagh. In the south and east it is framed by the western and northern Yutmaru glacier , respectively . In the north it borders on the high plateau of the upper Yazghil glacier . Northeastern neighbors are Yutmaru Sar , with which the Pumari Chhish is connected by a ridge, and behind it Yukshin Gardan Sar and Kanjut Sar . In the northwest, across the Yazghil glacier, lies the Distaghil Sar .

Pumari Chhish main peak

The Pumari Chhish was first tackled by Australian climbers in 1974, but they failed when climbing the Yazghil glacier in the north of the mountain. In 1979 a Japanese mountaineering group with S. Chiba , K. Minami , M. Ohashi and H. Yokoyama of the Hokkaido Alpine Association climbed the main summit via the long route from the Kunyang Glacier in the west. They first had to overcome the mountain pass to the Yazghil glacier in order to successfully complete the ascent over the northern ridge of the Pumari Chhish. According to the Himalayan Index , there has not yet been another successful climb.

Pumari Chhish South Summit

About 1 km southeast of the main summit of Pumari Chhish is the 7,297 m high southeast summit of Pumari Chhish, a secondary summit with a notch  height of 197 meters. Other sources - including the first climbers - refer to it as Pumari Chhish South ("southern summit") and record the height at 7350 meters. After two unsuccessful ascent attempts in 1999 and 2000 by Julie-Ann Clyma and Roger Payne , Yannick Graziani and Christian Trommsdorff were successful on June 12, 2007 . They managed this ascent, even though it was their first mountain peak over 7000 m. Your direct ascent to the south summit of the Pumari Chhish over the last 2700 meters was of the highest technical difficulty (ABO 5.10 M6 A1). They climbed to the summit in pure alpine style in six days; her special achievement was recognized in an editorial in the American Alpine Journal in 2008.
