Sir Pupuke Robati KBE (born April 9, 1925 in Rakahanga , Cook Islands , † April 26, 2009 in Auckland , New Zealand ) was a politician of the Cook Islands.

biography

Robati began his political career in 1965 with the first election as a member of the Legislative Assembly, in which he represented the interests of the Democratic Party in the constituency of Penrhyn of the Rakahanga Atoll after his re-elections from 1972 . During the governments of the Democratic Party under Tom Davis from July 1978 to April 1983 he was Deputy Prime Minister (Deputy Prime Minister) and from November 1983 to July 1987 Minister.

On July 29, 1987, he was the successor to Davis himself Prime Minister of the Cook Islands and held this office until his replacement by Geoffrey Henry on February 1, 1989.

In 2001 he was named Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for his services . Last Robati was dated 24 July 2001 to 2004 Parliament President (Speaker of Parliament). In the elections in September 2004 he was defeated by the independent candidate Piho Rua.
