The village of Pussy high above the Isère Valley

Pussy is a mountain village and commune déléguée with 332 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the commune of La Léchère in the Arrondissement of Albertville and in the Savoie department .

Located near the Isère river and the Mont Bellachat mountain, the area of the village covers about 18 km². The parish church dedicated to St John the Baptist was rebuilt in 1669.

history

The name comes from the Gallo-Roman Pusiacum , where pusus means "little boy". There was a church in Pussy as early as the High Middle Ages ( Ecclesia de Puiseio , 1170). The spelling of the place changed from Pussiacum (14th century) to Pussy in the 18th century. As part of a municipal reform , Pussy was incorporated into La Léchère with a few other villages in 1972 .

The population of Pussy was counted in 1561 with 1,455 inhabitants , 1776 with 548 inhabitants and 1979 with 276 inhabitants.
