The New Zealand State Highway 1 , which connects the city with Cambridge and Tokoroa , runs through Putaruru . Just under 2 km northeast of the city center, the New Zealand State Highway 23 branches off from State Highway 1 to the northeast, providing connections to the intersecting New Zealand State Highway 5 and New Zealand State Highway 29 .

Rail transport

The Kinleith Branch railroad runs through town. The line, which branches off to the east in Hamilton from the North Island Main Trunk Railway , leads via Morrinsville , Matamata to Kinleith , south of Tokoroa and has a branch to the east in Putaruru to Rotorua .

Attractions

  • The city is home to the Putaruru Timber Museum, which illustrates the history of New Zealand's timber industry.
  • Northeast of the city is the source of the Blue Spring . With a constant temperature of 11 ° C and an outflow of 42 m³ per minute, the very clear water rises from the mountain. Since the water absorbs red and green light components, it takes on a bluish color when the sun shines. A hiking trail leads to the source.
