Pyrifenox a chemical compound from the group of pyridines and a fungicide . Pyrifenox was founded in 1986 by Dr. R. Maag (now Syngenta ) introduced.

Extraction and presentation

Pyrifenox can be obtained from ethyl 2,4-dichlorobenzoate and ethyl 3-pyridine acetate , which react with one another in the presence of sodium methoxide . The product thereof is reacted with O- methylhydroxylamine in the 2nd step .

use

Pyrifenox is used as a systemic fungicide against numerous fungal diseases in banana, peanut, vegetable and wine growing. The active ingredient works by inhibiting the ergosterol biosynthesis.

Admission

Pyrifenox was approved in Germany from 1993 to 2000. No plant protection products containing this active ingredient are permitted in the EU or Switzerland .
