Stele of the Qaneith

Qaneith (also Qa-Neith ) was an ancient Egyptian member of the royal family or co-consort under King ( Pharaoh ) Den ( 1st Dynasty ).

supporting documents

Her name can be found on a polished limestone stele that was found in one of the side graves of Den's grave complex. On this gravestone she bears two extremely rare titles with uncertain readings. Peter Kaplony reads Seqer-Semtj ("Prisoners of War of Semti") and Djefa-Heru (" Nurturer (?) Of Horus"). Wolfgang Helck, on the other hand, reads Setret-Khastj ("The one distinguished by [King] Khastj") and " Hetemet-Heru " ("The one decorated by Horus"). These were presumably titles of privilege for royal mistresses .

dig

Qaneith was buried in a side grave in the royal necropolis Tomb U des Den at Abydos . Until the beginning of the 2nd dynasty , it was an ancient Egyptian tradition that some members of the royal family had to follow the ruler to their death.

Remarks

  1. "Semti" is an alternative reading of "Khasti", the maiden name of King Den
