The spring rushes ( Blysmus , singular: spring rushes) are a genus of plants that belongs to the sour grass family ( Cyperaceae ). In the past, they were also placed in the larger genus of cornices ( Scirpus ).

description

The spring rushes are perennial plants with a leafy stalk and a terminal inflorescence consisting of sessile spikelets arranged in two rows. The spikelets are multi-flowered, their husks are arranged in a spiral. The flower has 3 stamens and 2 stigmas . The fruits are lentil-like nuts.

Systematics

Four species are known in this genus:

  • Compressed spring rush ( Blysmus compressus (L.) Panz. Ex Link ): It occurs with two subspecies and two varieties from Europe to the Himalayas.
  • Blysm mongolicola Kitag. : The home is Mongolia.
  • Red spring rush ( Blysmus rufus (Huds.) Link ): It occurs from Europe to Mongolia and in sub-Arctic America to Canada.
  • Blysmus sinocompressus Tang & FT Wang : It occurs in three varieties from Mongolia to China.
