Quicksand (Alternative title: Quicksand - Dirty Money) is a French - British thriller directed by John Mackenzie from 2003 . It is a film adaptation of the novel Boudapesti 3 by Desmond Lowden .

Martin Raikes from New York works for a bank that finances the production of a film in Europe. After an anonymous tip-off about irregularities and dubious transactions, he travels to Monaco to check the books. There he discovers evidence that the film is just a pretext for money laundering for mafia boss Oleg Butraskaya . As a result, he is accused of murder, whereupon he is hunted down by the criminals and the police. Together with Lela Forin, who had worked for the Mafia and was supposed to be killed by him, and the aging film star Jake Mellows, Raikes fights against the Russian Mafia in southern France. She finally kidnaps his daughter to force him to give up. In the end, Oleg Butraskaya and his helpers are caught by Raikes, Forin and Mellows and shot by a corrupt police officer.
