Location in the vicinity

Quirusillas is a central place in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Quirusillas in the province of Florida . The village is located in the eastern Andean Mountains at an altitude of 1509  m in the southern foothills of the Cordillera Oriental , on the right bank of the Río Quirusillas , which flows over the Río Mairana to the Río Yapacaní and is thus directly connected to the Amazon basin . geography

Quirusillas is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the northwest and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. Because of the sheltered valley location, the climate is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and almost 20 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is around 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 35 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Quirusillas is located 156 kilometers by road southwest of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.

Santa Cruz of the 488 km long leads highway Ruta 7 on the cities of La Guardia and La Angostura to Samaipata and on about Mairana and Comarapa to Cochabamba , the capital of neighboring departments. Six kilometers northwest of Samaipata, a dirt road leads southwest down into the Mairana Valley, and there it is another 32 kilometers in a southerly direction until Quirusillas is reached.

population

The population of the village has increased almost fourfold in the past two decades:

year Residents source
1992 399 census
2001 626 census
2012 1 539 census

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region still has a certain proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Quirusillas 7.1 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
