The Quitschenberg in the Upper Harz is 881.5  m above sea level. NHN high elevation to the at Torfhaus located at altitude in the low mountain range resin in the unincorporated area of the resin of the district Goslar in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

The Quitschenberg is located in the Harz National Park about 3 km east-southeast of the Altenau district of Torfhaus . Its west crest is about 865  m and its east crest 881.5  m high; both peaks are about 650 m apart.

To the east past the Quitschenberg, the upper reaches of the Ecker flows along the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt in a south-north direction . The Brocken ( 1141.1  m ) rises directly across the river . To the south-west, west and north-west the mountain is surrounded by the Abbe , which flows into the Ecker north of the mountain. To the south, the landscape of the mountain passes on the Brocken field with the sources of Abbe and plug for Red break with the west of it at Oderbrück befindlichem Oderbruch over. To the west-north-west, it leads across the Abbetal, along the Abbegrabens to Torfhaus and to the local Lerchenköpf ( 821  m ) on federal road 4 . To the north it drops along the Ecker to the nearby Eckerstausee .

Forest and cliffs

On and on the Quitschenberg, which is mostly loosely wooded after bark beetle infestation, there are several rocky cliffs: On the west summit are the Quitschenbergklippen (max. Approx.  860  m ) with the Luisenklippe and about 800 m south of it the Hopfensäcke (approx.  875  m ).

Several paths and hiking trails run along and on the Quitschenberg . For example, one reaches coming from peat house on the south past leading to two hilltops Goetheweg for chunks ; Below the east knoll there is a refuge on the way . The Goetheweg crosses the Kaiserweg southwest of the west crest .
