Josef Lucas
Josef Lucas (born February 28, 1906 in Paderborn ; † November 24, 1973 there ) was a German architect .
Life
Josef Lucas, a nephew of the painter Willy Lucas , studied with Dominikus Böhm at the Cologne Werkschulen from 1928, with Peter Behrens at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1929 and with Clemens Holzmeister at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1931 . In 1932 he began to work as an architect in his home town of Paderborn. There he worked for a long time in the office of the diocesan master builder Kurt Matern . Later, Lucas also worked as a painter and sculptor .
In 1935 St. Georg was his first major order for a church building in Paderborn . Alois Fuchs , who, as a representative of the church building commission, particularly campaigned for young artists, advised Lucas on this.
One of his main works is Heilig Kreuz in Detmold , for which he had already submitted a draft in 1936, which was not carried out. A new design was shown at the exhibition Christian Art of the Present in Cologne in 1948 and implemented in a revised form in 1950/1951.
By the end of the 1950s, Lucas designed several church buildings in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . From 1957 he worked in the architecture department of the Staatliche Werkkunstschule Kassel , where he was involved in the new building in 1964.
