The Lerchenköpfe (also called larch heads ) in the Upper Harz are a two-capped range of mountains near Torfhaus in the Harz low mountain range . They belong to the non-parish Harz region of the Goslar district in Lower Saxony .

Their crests are the location of the two transmitters Torfhaus / Harz : On the southern crest, which is 821  m above sea level. NHN is high, there is an NDR transmission tower and on the north summit, which is about 801  m high, there is a DFMG transmission tower.

Geographical location

The Lerchenköpfe are located west (south tip) to north-northwest (north tip) of Torfhaus , a district of the mountain town of Altenau . The southern tip is part of the Harz National Park , the northern tip is like a peat house in an area that is excluded from the park. Federal road 4 , which runs through Torfhaus, runs between the two wooded knolls, which are about 700 m apart .

To the north the landscape of the ridge drops into the valley of the Radau , to the east it leads along the Abbegrabens and over the Quitschenberg ( 881.5  m ) to the Brocken ( 1141.1  m ) in Saxony-Anhalt . To the south it descends to the Oderteich , to the southwest it leads over the upper Kellwassertal with the Flörichshaier Graben and over the rocky cliffs of the Steile Wand to the Bruchberg (approx.  927  m ) on the state road  504 ( Steile-Wand-Straße ; Torfhaus-Altenau) ) over. To the west it falls over the Dehnenkopf (approx.  775  m ) into the middle Kellerwassertal.

Transmitter Torfhaus / Harz

The lark heads are the location of the two transmission systems , each with a transmission mast . The Harz-West transmitter is operated by Norddeutscher Rundfunk ( NDR ), Torfhaus with an additional transmission tower by Deutsche Funkturm GmbH ( DFMG ). The NDR-mast to the spread of digital television DVB-T and FM - radio is used, is 235 meters high. The DFMG transmission systems, which are used to broadcast VHF radio and directional radio , are 130 m and 57 m high, respectively.

leisure

On the Lerchenköpf there is a winter sports area with cross-country ski trails , with a ski slope at the Rinderkopf ski lift on the southern flank of the southern summit and with a toboggan run at the Brockenblick toboggan lift located on the eastern flank of the southern summit at the TorfHaus National Park visitor center . Several hiking trails lead through its landscape , from which you can walk through Torfhaus to the Goetheweg leading in the direction of the Brocken , and trails for mountain bikes .
