The Réserve écologique Rolland-Germain is a protected area established in 1991 on an area of 1366 hectares in the southwest of the Canadian province of Québec in the regional county municipality of La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau .

It is located 30 km north of the municipality of Maniwaki west of Lac Lytton . It represents and protects the forests typical of the central Gatineau area, where the yellow birch predominates.

The reserve is typical of the Upper Laurentides , or this part of the Canadian Shield . It is between 250 and 500  m above sea level, but there are numerous depressions. The subsoil often consists of gneiss and quartzite as well as calcium carbonate , on which tillite was deposited during and after the last ice age . Brown earth and podsol, interspersed with rock and stone, describe the soils of the region, with layers of organic material in the lower areas.

Forest covers 95% of the area of the protected area. In addition to the yellow birch, there is the balsam poplar , but also the occidental tree of life . The striped maple finds one of its northernmost locations here, as does the American beech .

The white-tailed deer , but also moose and black bear, the snowshoe hare (French: lièvre d'Amérique) and the raccoon can be found in the reserve.

The name of the area goes back to Brother Rolland Germain (1881–1972). He came to Canada from France in 1905 and studied the flora of Québec with brother Marie-Victorin. They published their earnings in Flore laurentienne . Rolland Germain taught in Ottawa from 1914 to 1926. There he published the extended work of his friar in Flore de l'Anticosti-Minganie . He left his herbarium to the Université de Sherbrooke .
