The Río Concepción (also Río Magdalena) is a 384 km long river in the Mexican state of Sonora . The river has its source 9 km southeast of Santa Cruz at about 1800 meters on Cerro Las Veredas in the El Carrizo area (Casa de Piedra). It flows in a west-southwest direction through Imuris , Magdalena de Kino , Santa Ana and Caborca . At Desemboque ( Municipio Caborca ) it flows into the Gulf of California .
River course and basin
The basin of the Río Concepción was formed around the town of Imuris from the rivers El Bambooto, Mil-pillas and Fresnal. At Magdalena de Kino, the river takes the waters of the Sásabe and Tasiacuri streams and on the border with Santa Ana it joins the river Altar to form La Asunción. At Santa Ana there are also the waters of the Corral Viejo, Aguaje, Otate, Coyotillo and Cumaro as well as the Pitiquito and the Caborca.
The basin of the Río Concepción is covered by ancient forests on an area of around 3,000 hectares. It is at an altitude of around 2,480 meters. The vegetation that serves to protect the soil consists of trees of the genus Pinus hartwegii , Abies religiosa and mixed oak forests . They form the basis of an ecosystem of cultivation and regulation.
