The Río Lurín is an approximately 105 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean in western Peru in the Lima region . It flows through the provinces of Huarochirí and Lima . He gave the diocese of Lurín and the district of Lurín the name.

River course

The Río Lurín has its source in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . There it has its origins in a small lake about 4750  m high in the San Damián district of the Huarochirí province. From there it initially flows 40 km in a predominantly southwestern direction through the mountains. It then flows 25 km in a west-northwest direction before gradually turning to the southwest and south-southwest. In the last 10 kilometers, the river crosses the coastal plain and finally flows into the Pacific Ocean on the southern edge of the Lima agglomeration.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Río Lurín extends over an area of ​​1667 km². It borders in the north on that of the Río Rímac , in the east on that of the Río Mala and in the south on several smaller Pacific tributaries.
