The Río Naya is an approximately 140 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean in western Colombia . It runs largely along the border of the northern department of Valle del Cauca and the southern department of Cauca .
River course
The Río Naya rises in the Western Cordillera , about 40 km southwest of the city of Cali , at an altitude of about 2500 m . It initially flows 15 km to the west, then 10 km to the south and finally again to the west. At river kilometer 80 the Río Naya leaves the mountains and reaches the western Colombian coastal lowlands. It flows through this in a predominantly westerly direction. At river kilometer 15, near the village of Puerto Merizalde , a 15 km long estuary branches off to the left. This forms the border between Cauca and Valle del Cauca and ends ( ⊙ ) in the north of a bay into which the Río San Juan de Micay also flows. 11 km above the estuary, a 20 km long estuary branches off to the north ( ⊙ ), while the main estuary branches off to the west.
