The Río Santa Eulalia is a 43 km long right tributary of the Río Rímac in Peru in the administrative region of Lima . Including the source river Río Pallca , the river length is 67 km.
River course
The Río Santa Eulalia arises at an altitude of about 3150 m in the district of Huanza in the province of Huarochirí at the confluence of the Río Acobamba (right) and Río Pallca (left). Immediately above the confluence is the Sheque dam on the Río Pallca . The Río Santa Eulalia initially flows 18 km in a west-southwest direction through the mountains, later in a south-southwest direction. On the upper 31 kilometers, the Río Santa Eulalia cuts through the Peruvian Western Cordillera and runs in narrow gorges. The Huinco dam is located at river kilometer 22 ( ⊙ ). The Río Santa Eulalia finally flows into the Río Rímac in the district of Santa Eulalia 43 km east-northeast of Lima at an altitude of about 920 m . It is its most important tributary. The catchment area of the Río Santa Eulalia covers an area of around 1080 km². The Río Santa Eulalia receives additional water from the catchment area of the Río Mantaro further east , which is derived from the lake Laguna Marcapomacocha .
Use of hydropower
In the river system of the Río Rímac, to which the Río Santa Eulalia belongs, there are several hydroelectric plants. The Huanza and Carhuac hydropower plants are located at the source of the Río Pallca . Above the Huínco dam is the Huinco hydroelectric power station , which receives its water from the Sheque dam via an underground pipeline. Below the Huinco dam, the water is diverted to the Callahuanca hydropower station . This also receives water from the upper reaches of the Río Rímac. Directly below the Callahuanca hydropower plant there is a weir ( ⊙ ) on the Río Santa Eulalia, where the water is drained again and fed to the Moyopampa hydropower plant via an underground pipeline with a subsequent pressure line . This is located below the mouth of the Río Santa Eulalia on the Río Rímac.
