The Río Yanuncay is a 58 km long right tributary of the Río Tomebamba in the Azuay province in southern Ecuador . In the upper reaches the river is also called Río Sigsihuaycu , Río Quingoyacu and Río Galgal .

River course

The Río Yanuncay has its source 35 km west-southwest of the city center of Cuenca at an altitude of about 3800  m . It initially flows north for 20 km before turning east. In the last ten kilometers, the Río Yanuncay flows through the southern urban area of ​​Cuenca. 2.3 km above the confluence with the Río Tomebamba, the Río Tarqui meets the river from the right.

Hydrology

The Río Yanuncay drains an area of ​​about 940 km². The mean discharge above the confluence of the Río Tarqui is 6.6 m³ / s.
