The Río Yanuncay is a 58 km long right tributary of the Río Tomebamba in the Azuay province in southern Ecuador . In the upper reaches the river is also called Río Sigsihuaycu , Río Quingoyacu and Río Galgal .
River course
The Río Yanuncay has its source 35 km west-southwest of the city center of Cuenca at an altitude of about 3800 m . It initially flows north for 20 km before turning east. In the last ten kilometers, the Río Yanuncay flows through the southern urban area of Cuenca. 2.3 km above the confluence with the Río Tomebamba, the Río Tarqui meets the river from the right.
Hydrology
The Río Yanuncay drains an area of about 940 km². The mean discharge above the confluence of the Río Tarqui is 6.6 m³ / s.
