The Río Tomebamba is the 24 km long right source river of the Río Cuenca in the province of Azuay in the south of Ecuador . Including the source rivers, the entire stretch of the river is 42 km.

River course

The Río Tomebamba arises 15 km northwest of the city center of Cuenca at the confluence of the Río Llaviucu and Río Matadero . The two source rivers arise in the Cordillera Occidental in the Cajas National Park . The Río Tomebamba flows in an east-southeast direction through the urban area of ​​Cuenca. The E582 trunk road , which connects Cuenca with the coastal plain southeast of Guayaquil , follows the course of the river. 4.5 km above the junction with the Río Machángara to the Río Cuenca, the Río Yanuncay meets the Río Tomebamba from the right. This then turns towards east-northeast.

Hydrology

The Río Tomebamba drains an area of ​​about 1300 km². The mean discharge not far from the mouth is 17.6 m³ / s.
