history

The upper ground of the Biebertal is said to have been settled as early as 1000 . Röhrig belonged to the office of Bieber and thus as a fief of Kurmainz initially to the county of Rieneck . Half of the office - including Röhrig - passed to the Lords of Hanau by inheritance in 1333 . So a condominate was created . When the County of Hanau was divided in 1458, the Hanau half of the condominium came to the County of Hanau-Münzenberg . In 1559 the Counts of Rieneck died out. Their rights reverted to Kurmainz. Röhrig was now in a condominium between Kurmainz and the county of Hanau-Munzenberg.

In the Thirty Years' War Roehrig was severely destroyed. After the war, the place had shrunk to about a tenth of its previous size, to a few houses.

Population development:
  • 1598: 33 households
  • 1633: 44 households
  • 1753: 5 households with 33 people
  • 1895: 4 houses with 33 residents

In the following years Röhrig was therefore added to the neighboring town of Bieber. The place was also parish after Bieber. In 1684, the condominium between Mainz and Hanau was dissolved by a contract: The Bieber office - and with it Röhrig - was transferred in full to the County of Hanau in exchange with other areas . 1736 died with Count Johann Reinhard III. the last Count of Hanau and the county of Hanau-Münzenberg fell to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel (from 1803: " Electorate of Hesse "). A fundamental administrative reform took place here in 1821. Bieber now belonged to the newly formed district of Gelnhausen, which in turn merged into the Main-Kinzig district in 1974. In 1971 the municipalities of Bieber, Roßbach , Lanzingen and Breitenborn / Lützel were merged into the (large) municipality of Bieber as part of the regional reform in Hesse , which in turn has formed the (new) municipality of Biebergemünd since 1974 together with Biebergemünd.
