The Roman and Bavarian Museum Burg Kipfenberg is an archaeological , folklore and local history museum in Markt Kipfenberg in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt . It is located in a former farm building of Kipfenberg Castle .

The focus of the museum is on the representation of the Roman times in the province of Raetia , the construction and fall of the Limes , the migration period and the time of the first Bavarians in the Altmühltal region . The museum was founded in 1999 by the Association of Friends and Patrons of the Roman and Bavarian Museum Burg Kipfenberg e. V. founded and operated until 2017. It is a partner museum of the State Archaeological Collection in Munich. Since April 2018, the market town of Kipfenberg has assumed sole personal and organizational responsibility for the museum. The regional information point Limes has also been located there since July 2006.

The reason for setting up the museum was the discovery of a sensational Germanic warrior's grave with a rich set of accessories in Kemathen, a district of Kipfenberg, in 1990. The warrior of Kemathen was a Germanic mercenary in the service of the Roman army who was killed in the first half of the 5th century. Century lived. This complex of finds and other finds from the region are presented together with reconstructed objects. Programs for museum education , special exhibitions , museum festivals and programs for adults complete the exhibition.

For initiating and managing the museum, Juliane and Günter Schwartz received the Monument Protection Medal of the Free State of Bavaria in 2017 .
