Rüdiger Kowalke (born December 4, 1947 in Lübeck ; † February 16, 2019 in Hamburg ) was a German restaurateur .

Life

Rüdiger Kowalke comes from an old Lübeck restaurateurs family, his parents had a carp restaurant in Reinfeld . Between 1963 and 1966 he completed an apprenticeship as a chef and then trained as a hotel manager. Later he was deputy head chef in the Hamburg airport restaurant. From 1973 to 1980 he worked as managing director at the Hotel Kaltenkirchener Hof in Kaltenkirchen , where he previously worked as head chef. In 1976 he was accepted into the Chaine des Rotisseurs . At the beginning of 1981 he took over the Fischereihafen restaurant , founded in 1950 - with a view of the Elbe - on Große Elbstraße in Hamburg. He made this one of the most famous addresses for fish gourmets in Germany. In 1997 he took his son Dirk Kowalke into the company as an equal partner. In 2009 he fell ill with bile duct cancer , which was successfully resected surgically.

He died on February 16, 2019 as a result of another cancer . Rüdiger Kowalke found his final resting place in the Nienstedten cemetery in the Hamburg district of the same name .
