Rüfenacht is a village that belongs to the municipality of Worb in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern , Switzerland .

Location and inhabitants

Rüfenacht is located west of Worb on the cantonal road between Bern and Lucerne . Not to be confused with the municipality of Rüfenach in the canton of Aargau. Due to its strong orientation towards Bern, Rüfenacht already has the character of a suburb of Bern, although it is part of the political municipality of Worb. Rüfenacht is only 6,609 m as the crow flies from the Swiss federal city. The village has 3,514 inhabitants (March 31, 2014) and is about 600 meters above sea level. Rüfenacht borders on Gümligen .

history

Rüfenacht is located on a prehistoric through route between the Worblen and Aare valleys. The name probably comes from Roman times: Rufinus estate or property, Rufiniacum .

After the Alemanni arrived in the area around 700 AD, they incorporated the name into their language. 1248 it was considered Ruivennacho mentioned, 1261 Ruvennacho , 1324 then Rüffennach . Rüffenacht was written from 1479 to 1563 . Then the name changed from Rüfenach to Rüfenacht.

In 1538 the Zehender family from Bern built a country estate in the area of today's village. The Zehender were followed in 1676 by the Bernburg families Stürler, Muralt, Stuber, Wyss and Knecht. Rüfenacht was part of the church of Worb, but was not subject to the aristocracy of Worb. In court and rulership matters, Rüfenacht was subject to the “City Court” of the city of Bern until 1798. Everything has been regulated by Worb since 1920.

In the 1950s, the area near Rüfenachtmoos was to be urbanized. In the 1970s they wanted to build a workshop there. After the excavation pit was dredged, it filled with water and was named Guggerseeli after its owner. The building permit later expired and nature took back this wasteland. In 1989 this was placed under nature protection. The beaver settled, then the midwife toad and other protected animals came along.

Rüfenacht expanded until the Second World War. The population doubled from 339 inhabitants (1900) to 686 (1950). In 1957 a building boom started, which turned the village into a typical agglomeration community . In 1990 Rüfenacht had 3,795 inhabitants. This number fell to 3,404 in 2010 due to the real estate crisis.

On February 6, 2012, the traditional Sonne was completely destroyed by a major fire. The restaurant was built in 1844 and in 1897 the first telephone connection in the village was put into operation.

Transport links

The village has been linked to Bern and Worb by tram line 6 (blue train) with three stations (Rüfenacht, Scheyenholz and Langenloh) since 1898 . In the beginning there was still the steam tram. The post bus line 794 connects the village with Worb via Vielhaben. The Moonliner M4 ensures the night connection with Bern on weekends.

With the A 10 motorway feeder 2 km west of Rüfenacht, the town has been connected to the A 6 since 1973 . Hauptstrasse 10 runs through the village , east into the Emmental, Entlebuch and Lucerne. West to the French border at Les Verrières .

Attractions

The Schlössli Rüfenacht, which is a former hunting lodge, and the Guggerseeli on the edge of the Vielhabenmoos are well worth seeing.
