Rıdvan Çakır

Rıdvan Çakır (born 1945 in Akyazı , Sakarya ; died March 19, 2017 there ) was President of the largest Turkish - Islamic association in Germany , DİTİB (Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion ) from 2003 to the beginning of 2007 .

Life

Rıdvan Çakır trained as an imam in 1966 and graduated from the Islamic Institute in Istanbul in 1970 with a degree in theology . He had performed his military service from 1972 to 1974 as a substitute officer. He later worked as an imam in Kofçaz , Akyazı and Midyat .

In 1975 he started to work as a deputy inspector in the Turkish religious authority Diyanet . In 1987 he was appointed deputy head of department and in 1988 he was made department head. In 1989 he was appointed Deputy President of Diyanet. From 2003 to 2006 he worked as counselor at the Turkish embassy in Berlin .
