Růžena Svobodová born. Čápová (born July 10, 1868 in Mikulovice near Znojmo , † January 1, 1920 in Prague ) was a Czech writer .

She attended a convent school in Prague and became a tutor . In 1890 she married the writer František Xaver Svoboda . She traveled a lot, met important writers through her husband ( Božena Benešová , Marie Pujmanová , František Xaver Šalda - with whom she had a love affair) and began to write under her influence.

She is one of the most important representatives of Czech Impressionism in literature , with her novel heroes usually being women or children.
