Raúl Leoni (born April 24, 1905 in El Manteco , Venezuela , † July 5, 1972 in New York City ) was President of Venezuela from 1964 to 1969. He was a member of the then largest Venezuelan party, Acción Democrática (AD).

Leoni studied law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas . He was a member of the Generación del 28 , a student group that organized the protests against the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez in Caracas in 1928 . Many students took part, who later initiated the democratic change in Venezuela as politicians.

From 1945 to 1948 Raúl Leoni was Venezuela's first labor minister ; during the era known as El Trienio Adeco , with the 1945 coup and the first democratic election in 1946.
