Jaime Lusinchi

Jaime Lusinchi (born May 27, 1924 in Clarines ; † May 21, 2014 ) was a Venezuelan politician of the Acción Democrática and president of his home country from 1984 to 1989.

The 1980s are also known as the "Lost Decade" in Venezuela. Lusinchi was unable to free the Venezuelan economy from the recession and left his successor Pérez a de facto bankrupt state: a deficit of 9% of gross domestic product , 35 billion US dollars in foreign debts, hardly any currency reserves and 25% of the workforce as state employees.
