Radio Africa No. 1 is the oldest radio station targeting listeners across the African continent. It was set up in 1978 with French support in the Gabonese city of Moyabi and also broadcasts in the Paris region .

history

The station was founded in 1978 in response to growing American, South African and European influence in countries in Central Africa . With the support of the then French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing , a transmission system with an initial output of 500 kW was built in the province of Haut-Ogooué , near the small town of Moyabi, this location is located near a hydroelectric power station. According to its own information, the station reached 40 percent of the African population at that time. The channel is mostly financed through payments from the state of Gabon, French financial aid and advertising revenues.

The transmitter systems in Gabon are now an indispensable part of global communication networks and are also used for telecommunications , telemetry , marine radio and for aerospace. The transmission is carried out with the latest technology and uses geostationary satellite connections.
