Radoslav Kováč (born November 27, 1979 in Šumperk ) is a former Czech football player who was last under contract with Sparta Prague .

Club career

About the youth teams of the SK Sigma Olomouc Kováč came into the first Czech league , where he became a fixture in the second year 1998/99. In 2003 he switched to the top Czech club Sparta Prague . There he became Czech champion and made a few appearances in the Champions League , before jumping abroad in 2005. He plays together with his compatriot Martin Jiránek at Spartak Moscow in the first Russian league . He plays variably in the defensive area as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.

Outside Russia, Kováč was best known for a yellow card in Spartak Moscow's 2-2 draw against Lokomotiv Moscow on July 19, 2008. He brought a spectator who had run onto the field to the ground so that the security forces could catch him. He was warned by the referee for this unsportsmanlike nature. The speedster had to be brought limping from the square.

In late January 2009 Kováč moved on loan to West Ham United in the English Premier League , in August 2009 he was permanently signed by West Ham.

For the 2011/12 season the Czech joined the reigning Swiss champions FC Basel , where he signed a contract until 2013. His debut in a competitive match for FCB, he gave 16 July 2011 at 1-1 in their opening league match against BSC Young Boys in Stade de Suisse of Bern . At the end of the season Kováč won the championship title and with the cup victory also the double with Basel. He scored his first goal in the Swiss football championship (1-0 in the meantime) in a 1-1 away draw at the Stade de Tourbillon in the game against FC Sion on August 4, 2012.

National team

In his youth, Kováč was in action for the Czech youth team and was also part of the team that won the European Under-21 Championship in 2002. In 2004 he made his first appearance for the senior national team , although he has only been a substitute there so far. He also played the role of substitute in defense in the Czech Republic's World Cup squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
