After Harutjunjan moved to the USA in 2000, he initially taught at an ice rink in Lake Arrowhead , California . In August 2013 he moved to the East West Ice Palace in Artesia , California. He has been working in Lakewood , California since June 2016 .

He was and is the trainer of many successful figure skaters, including Ashley Wagner , Nathan Chen , Adam Rippon , Vivian Le , Mariah Bell , Michal Březina , Michelle Kwan , Jeffrey Buttle , Mao Asada , Kiira Korpi , Sasha Cohen , Hannah Miller , Iwan Dinew and Romain Ponsart .
