Mohammad Rafi Barekzai (born June 6, 1990 in Herat , Afghanistan ) is an Afghan football player who has been with Tofan Harirod since 2015 .

Club career

In the 2011 season Barekzai played for Abumoslem Herat in the Herat Premier League, in 2012 he moved within the league to Aslam Herat FC .

The midfielder recommended himself to the newly founded Afghan Premier League via the football casting show Maidan e Sabz and signed a contract with Tofan Harirod for the 2012 season . Barekzai made his debut on September 21, 2012 in a 4-1 win over Simorgh Alborz . In the end, the championship was celebrated after a 2-1 win in the final against Simorgh Alborz. In his second season with Tofan Harirod, he was named captain of the team. At the end of the season they reached third place after a 4-0 win in the game for third place against Oqaban Hindukush .

For the 2014 season he moved with two other players from Tofan Harirod to De Spinghar Bazan . Barekzai was appointed captain of the team that represents the west of Afghanistan in the APL. At the end of the season they finished 3rd.

For the 2015 season , Barekzai returned to his home club Tofan Harirod. He has been playing at Tofan with his brother Khalid since 2016 .

National team

For the first time for the Afghan national team , Barekzai was nominated for qualifying for the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 , but did not appear in any of the three games against Mongolia (1: 0), Laos (1: 1) and Sri Lanka (1: 0). But in the end you could qualify. On June 4, 2013, he finally made his debut in the 3-2 loss to Tajikistan .

Barekzai was also nominated for the 2013 South Asian Cup squad, where the national team beat India 2-0 in the final . In the second game against Sri Lanka (3: 1) he scored a goal from a direct corner kick to achieve an interim 1: 1 equalization.

On March 29, 2015, Barekzai announced his retirement from the national team as one of seven national players. Team-internal difficulties were given as the reason.
