Rage of the Yeti - Dangerous Treasure Hunt (Original title: Rage of the Yeti ) is an American horror film from the Syfy television channel from 2011 . Directed by David Hewlett .

action

Billionaire Mills sends a team led by treasure hunter Villers to the Canadian Arctic . They are supposed to find a shipwreck, the HMS Victoria, that has been tracked down by a satellite and recover an ancient book on board. This Chinese code is said to contain the only written record of the existence of yetis . However, the expedition team is immediately attacked by the Yetis. The monsters have a white fur that strongly reflects the light, which makes them almost invisible in the snow, and they are almost insensitive to firearms. Several people fall victim to the monsters, Villers and a few are able to escape to an outpost and call Mills for help.

Mills then sends a rescue team led by brothers Jonas and Jace to the Arctic. These are also attacked by the Yetis, but they manage to recover the codex and get through to the outpost. The code tells you the story of the snow monsters. A disgraced general sent a shipload of Yeren , an Asian variant of the Yeti, as a gift to the Chinese emperor. However, he immediately sent the animals back with the HMS Victoria. The ship ran aground in the Arctic, the Yeren expanded and adapted to the environment. When Mills found out about this, he asked the expedition members to capture a living yeren. The group then tries to lure one of the monsters into the outpost and capture it, but it fails. It turns out that some of the treasure hunters work for Mills' competitors. They steal the code and flee the outpost. In the distance they discover numerous nests of the Yeren, while they are attacked and killed by adult animals.

Jonas and Jace follow the renegades and find their bodies and the code. When trying to lure one of the young animals out of a nest and catch them, they are attacked by a horde of Yeren and their alpha animals . At the last moment they manage to trigger an avalanche and bury most of the monsters under the masses of snow. You reach the outpost and can finally escape in a snowmobile with Villers and the last survivors. A Yeren who finally attacks the snowmobile can be killed with an improvised oxygen lance.

production

The budget for the film was about $ 1.8 million. The HMS Victoria was named after the fiancée of one of the film's authors.

reception

The editorial team of Cinema describes Rage of the Yeti as a "typical SyFy-Channel production to laugh away at" and draws the conclusion: "Frozen food that is better not defrosted". The page letterboxd.com also rated Rage of the Yeti negatively and criticized the poor computer animation and the quality of the dialogues, the film was "quite entertaining, but still terrible". Christopher Armstead from Film Critics United counts Rage of the Yeti not among the worst, but neither among the best Syfy productions. He praises the excess of action, chaos, death, explosions, murder, fake games and car chases, but also criticizes the animations and the plot of the film.
