Jonas Armstrong
William Jonas Armstrong (born January 1, 1981 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish actor . In Germany he is known for his appearance on the BBC series Robin Hood .
life and career
Armstrong's parents moved to Lytham St Annes , Lancashire , England when he was six years old. There he grew up with a brother and a sister and went to the Arnold School in Blackpool .
Armstrong studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art , graduating in 2003. Armstrong then appeared in the play Quartermaine's Terms as Derek Meadle at the Royal & Derngate Theater in Northampton. In March 2004 he played Henry Antrobus in We Got Away Again by Thornton Wilder at the Young Vic Theater in the London Borough of Lambeth .
In 2004 he played Anthony Millington in six episodes of the fourth season of the British comedy drama series Teachers on Channel 4. In January 2005 he appeared as Richard in Rutherford & Son at the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester . Also in 2005, he played Pete Maitland on Channel 4 in the crime series The Ghost Squad .
December 2006 he starred in the two-part crime thriller Losing Gemma on Independent Television . He received his first major television role in October 2006 as Robin of Locksley in the BBC television series of the same name . During the filming of the second season, Armstrong broke his metatarsal bone in a staged fight scene . He appeared as a guest on BBC Comedy in the comedy quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks .
In August 2008, the BBC confirmed that Armstrong would be leaving Robin Hood at the end of season three, the last episode of which aired on the BBC on June 27, 2009. He himself justified this with the desire for new challenges. The character of Robin Hood therefore died at the end of the season, the series was not continued beyond that. In 2008 Armstrong appeared in the horror film Clive Barker's Book of Blood , which is based on a short story by Clive Barker .
As part of the promotional tour for the start of the series of the third season of Robin Hood, Jonas Armstrong announced that he will shoot the film The Glasshouse ( Walking with the Enemy ) from April 2009 . He can be seen there in the role of Elek Cohen, a Jew who infiltrated the German military as an SS officer during the Nazi invasion of Budapest in order to save other Jews and bring them to safety. The film premiered on October 13, 2013 at the Hamptons International Film Festival .
In January 2009, Jonas Armstrong was reading CBeebie's bedtime stories for The Bedtime Hour program . In the same year he played in episode 3 of the third season of the BBC television series The Street , which aired on July 27, 2009, the TA soldier Private Nick Calshaw. Calshaw returned from Afghanistan with a disfigured face and a prosthetic hand after he was injured by a suicide bomber there.
A year later Armstrong can be seen in the episode The Secret of Chimneys of the crime series Agatha Christie's Marple as Anthony Cade. Cade is a young Virginia Caterham's admirer who is found supposedly red-handed on a corpse. In the same year Jonas Armstrong was not only in front of the camera for the film The Rage of the Yeti (US cable broadcaster SyFy) in Sofia, Bulgaria, but also for the BBC television two-part field Of Blood in Glasgow, Scotland. There he plays the journalist Terry Hewitt.
In November 2013, Armstrong received a Stars on the Horizon Award for Walking with the Enemy at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival .
