In April 2003, Raidel spoke of the “bleeding out of the German armaments industry” in the conservative newspaper Junge Freiheit . When asked whether a government initiative to protect German armaments knowledge is needed, Raidel replied:

“Of course, the only problem is that such interventions in the free market system are difficult. So we have to take a different approach: When is a company forced to even sell its know-how? When it is no longer valuable! For Germany this means providing our defense technology companies with the necessary cushion by promoting research and development, but also by approving product acceptance. In reality, however, the German arms industry is in danger of bleeding out. On top of that, the Bundeswehr will say: 'Buy American!' - 'Buy American!' "

In September 2006, Hans Raidel introduced a motion to the Bundestag under the heading: Ban dangerous cluster munitions - Further develop international humanitarian law. He is now critical of his choice of words:

"This choice of words is of course ambivalent, you have to admit, because either cluster munitions are dangerous or they are not dangerous."
