Raimondo Giustiniani

Raimondo Giustiniani (born September 26, 1899 in Smirna , † November 10, 1976 in Rome ) was an Italian diplomat .

His parents were Maria Allotti and the Marquis Edmondo Giustiniani. His ancestors belonged to the line of Giustiniani of Genoa, lords of Chios . At the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens , he became a doctor of law doctorate .

Career

In 1927 he joined the Foreign Service, became consul in Nantes , Metz and legation secretary in Vienna . From 1935 to February 7, 1939, he was the secretary of the legation in Berlin under Bernardo Attolico . From February 7, 1939 to November 9, 1940, he headed Department II in Rome: Austria, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia , Greece, Kingdom of Yugoslavia , Romania, Turkey, Hungary and affairs of Italian islands in the Aegean . On September 8, 1943, he was first class legation secretary in Zagreb when he resolutely refused to obey the regime in Salò , which brought him internment in Zagreb and later the regaining of freedom in Liguria . From 1947 to 1950 he was Minister Counselor in Paris . From 1951 to 1952 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv and from 1958 to 1962 he was ambassador to The Hague .
