Raimund came from a noble family from the northern Pyrenees . After studying and serving in the military, he turned to the church career and became a regular canon in Pamiers . Alfonso I of Aragón gave him the bishopric in Roda de Isábena in 1104 , in order to settle the dispute between the bishops of Urgell and Huesca over the boundaries of their dioceses in the newly won areas around Barbastro. Nonetheless, there were disputes about the extent of the jurisdiction. Raimund was supported by Popes Paschalis II and Calixt II . In 1116, Bishop Esteban of Huesca, with the support of the patriciate of Barbastro and King Alfonso I, ordered the expulsion of Raimund from Roda on the charge of resisting the war against Muslims and other heretics. Barbastro was then placed under the diocese of Huesca, while Raimund was able to return to Roda. In 1125, Raimund accompanied King Alfonso in an attempt to conquer Andalusia. Raimund died on June 21, 1126 and was buried in the crypt of Roda Cathedral.

The reconstruction of Roda Cathedral began during the reign of Raimund. Numerous Romanesque churches were also built in the diocese, such as the two from Taüll in the Vall de Boí .
