Rainbow ( spelling : RAINBOW ; Hangeul : 레인보우 , Katakana : レ イ ン ボ ー ) was a South Korean girl group that was under contract with DSP Media . The group consisted of seven members: Woori, Seungah, Jaekyung, Noeul, Yoonhye, Jisook and Hyunyoung. They made their debut on November 12th, 2009 with their mini album 'Gossip Girl'. On October 27, 2016, Rainbow's dissolution was officially confirmed after all members decided not to renew their contract.

history

2009: Founding and Gossip Girl

In January 2009 it was announced for the first time that DSP Media will put together a new girl group. According to reports, some members had been in training with the record company for four years. Between late October and early November 2009, DSP Media published daily teasers in the form of images of the group, followed by the release of a music video teaser for Gossip Girl on November 6, 2009.

On November 3rd, 2009 Rainbow was launched as a music group. DSP Media explained: "The members of Rainbow were chosen in such a way that their physical appearance is in no way inferior to that of Fin.KL. "

On November 11, 2009, the music video for Gossip Girl was released. A day later, the five-song EP of the same name was released . On November 14, 2009, the group made their debut on Show! Music Core with the performance of Gossip Girl , their first single .

After the release of Gossip Girl , Not Your Girl was followed by a second single from the EP, which was written in response to the SS501 song UR Man .

2010: Image change and increasing popularity

In early August 2010, DSP Media published a single image as a teaser for the follow-up song to Gossip Girl . The members wore plain white dresses with rainbow-colored eye shadows. Several days later, a second teaser image was posted showing the members wearing two different outfits on two different backgrounds. On August 11, 2010, the music video for A was released. Two days later, Rainbow appeared on the KBS TV series Music Bank . The following appearances were on show! Music Core and the SBS program Inkigayo .

17 October 2010 published DSP Media is a selection of photos of Rainbow operatives, as anticipation of the new single release A . The single was released on October 19, 2010 along with the full set of photos. On October 21, 2010, the first live appearance on the Mnet show M! Countdown broadcast. Three more appearances followed. By November 14, 2010 the group was promoting their next single Mach .

Reports revealed that Rainbow would change its image . DSP Media then disclosed the change of image: “So far you have only shown your innocent and sexy side. Now they will show a more modern image. You will transform your image into a sexy dominatrix image. "

2011: So Nyeo , Sweet Dream and Japanese debut

In April 2011 Rainbow released their second EP So Nyeo (SO ). The song To Me was released as a single. The overall concept of the EP was the spring time and the photos showed the band members in white clothes in front of a field of flowers.

To promote the song To Me with the associated revenge theme, the luxury is shown on a picture . For this composition, Rainbow worked with Japanese DJ Daishi Dance , and reports say the ballet choreography of the Swan Lake music video was adapted. On May 14, 2012, Sega Toys and Dong Woo Animation hired them to record two songs for the soundtrack of the Japanese / Korean anime series Zoobles . The two songs with the titles I Love Zoobles and Zooblesui Moheom can be heard as the beginning and ending music of the episodes. They were recorded in three languages ​​(Korean, Japanese and English). The songs were uploaded to DSP Media 's official YouTube channel .

On June 20, 2011, a 43-second teaser for the next single Sweet Dream was uploaded to the YouTube channel and the entire music video was released a day later. This music video was shot using motion control technology. The repackaged version of So Nyeo was released on June 22, 2011 and included alternative tracks such as Sweet Dream , an acoustic version of Kiss (from the Gossip Girl- EP), a club version of To Me , and an instrumental version of Sweet Dream . On June 23, 2011, Rainbow joined M! Countdown to.

On September 7, 2011, Rainbow topped Recochoku's weekly download charts with the Japanese release of their A music video. The group had their first Japanese concert in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district in front of 2,000 fans with the performance of A , followed by a 15-minute discussion. 2012: Rainbow Pixie, Over the Rainbow and solo projects

On January 3rd, 2012 DSP Media announced that part of the group would form a trio. On the same day, a teaser picture was posted on DSP Media's website revealing the trio's name ( Rainbow Pixie ). On January 4, 2012, another picture revealed that the members Seung-ah, Ji-sook and Hyun-young would form the trio. They released their debut song Hoi Hoi on January 12, 2012 and had their first TV appearance on the show! Music core .

Rainbow released a new Japanese single on March 14, 2012, entitled Gonna Gonna Go! ( Japanese ガ ナ ガ ナ GO! ). A teaser of the music video was released on February 24, 2012, along with details of their Japanese debut album Over the Rainbow , which was released on March 28, 2012. On April 5, 2012 Rainbow released the second single CANDY GIRLS! in front. The song's official music video was released on September 5, 2012, coinciding with the first DVD season of the anime series Zoobles .

DSP Media announced that the rest of the group will pursue other projects in South Korea until further notice. Woo-ri appeared on the Invincible Youth variety show , but left the show because of a role on KBS sitcom I Need A Fairy . Jae-kyung participated in the jTBC series Monster , which started on April 2, 2012. On April 19, 2012, DSP Media announced that Hyun-young had been diagnosed with a vocal cord polyp and had to be surgically removed. It was further stated, “As her schedule became full, she had to use her voice more and more. I think that's why the polyps developed. ”Jae-kyung appeared on SBS's new Laws of the Jungle W program after appearing on Monster . Seung-ah was part of the first season of the tvN show The Romantic and Idol .

2013-present: Rainbow Syndrome
