Rainer Brinkmann (Admiral)

Rainer Maria Brinkmann (born March 3, 1958 in Warburg ) is a vice admiral of the German Navy and deputy to the inspector of the navy and commander of the fleet and support forces .

Military career

Training and first uses

Rainer Maria Brinkmann attended the Marianum high school and, after graduating from high school in 1976, joined the German Navy as a conscript . As an officer candidate for Crew VII / 77 , he began his training as a naval officer . From 1978 to 1981 he studied education at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . This was followed by training and employment as a boat weapons officer in the 5th Schnellbootgeschwader in Olpenitz (1982–1985). From 1985 to 1987 he was employed as an adjutant to the Commander Territorialkommando Schleswig-Holstein / German Authorized Area AFNORTH , Kiel. After in-depth training in surface weapons , he took over command of S 53 "Pelikan" in 1988, again in the 5th Schnellbootgeschwader. From 1990 to 1992 Brinkmann took part in the admiralty staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

From 1992 to 1994 Brinkmann served as S3 and deputy commander in the 2nd Schnellbootgeschwader in Olpenitz. From 1994 to 1997 he was employed as a staff officer in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn and in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr in Cologne . In the next function he worked from 1997 to 1999 as commander of the 7th Schnellbootgeschwader in Warnemünde. This was followed by assignments as head of department in the naval office in Rostock (1999-2001) and in the personnel office of the Bundeswehr in Cologne (2001-2003). From 2003 to 2006 he was head of department in the Federal Ministry of Defense for the personnel management “Admirals / Captains at sea” and from 2006 to 2007 for “operational policy matters”. Subsequently, he was deployed from 2007 to 2008 as deputy commander and chief of staff of the operational flotilla 1 in Kiel.

Service as an admiral

From 2008 to 2010 he was in command of the Flotilla 1 and as director of the “ Center of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters ” in Kiel. In 2010 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn as sub-department head PSZ 1. From 2012 until the start of his current employment, Brinkmann was Deputy Commander of the Bundeswehr Operations Command .
