research

His main topics include both qualitative methods of empirical social research such as discourse analysis and quantitative methods such as multivariate statistics , in particular the analysis of categorical data, logistic regression and social science network analysis .

In 1997 he wrote a basic work on ego-centered network analysis, a special form of social science network analysis, "Ego-centered network analysis and family relationship systems". He has made an important contribution to discourse analysis in Germany with his book "Kulturwelt, Diskurs und Lebensstil. A discourse-theoretical extension of Bourdieu's theory of distinction." which was awarded the DGS dissertation prize at the 32nd Congress of the German Society for Sociology in 2004 in Munich. Here he links Pierre Bourdieu's theory of distinction with Michel Foucault's discourse analysis and thus compares the techno and metal discourse using the trendy magazines Raveline and Metal Hammer .
