Rainer Eberle

Rainer Eberle (born February 2, 1954 in Ravensburg ) is a German diplomat . From 2014 to summer 2017 he was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Barcelona .

Life

Eberle graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Mannheim.

One of his first posts in the German Foreign Service was Islamabad from 1988 to 1991 , where he was involved, among other things, in looking after Afghan refugees. From 1991 to 1995 he was posted to the Foreign Office in Bonn. In 1995/96 he worked at the German Embassy in Brussels. From 1996 to 2001 he was at the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin. In July 2001 he became the representative of the Consul General in São Paulo . After taking part in the final phase of the international Afghanistan talks on the Petersberg in Bonn in December 2001 , he became the first German ambassador to Kabul in January 2002 to be accredited to the Karzai government . In 2004 he returned to the Foreign Office in Berlin as head of department. From 2008 to 2011 he was ambassador to Khartoum , Sudan. From 2011 to 2013 Rainer Eberle was ambassador to Tripoli . From July 2014 to July 2017, Eberle headed the German Consulate General in Barcelona.

family

Eberle is married to Anna Lührmann , who is 29 years his junior, a former member of the Bundestag and Green politician . The couple have a daughter together, born in 2008. Eberle has three other children from a previous marriage with Birgitta Maria Siefker-Eberle .
