Rainer Ignaczak (born November 18, 1943 ) is a former soccer goalkeeper who played, among other things, for 1. FC Union Berlin in the GDR league .

Career

Ignaczak began his football career at BSG Motor Köpenick , where he began in 1957 as a thirteen-year-old student, went through all youth teams and last played in the men's division in the second-rate GDR league . During this time he also completed his professional training as a cable worker. In 1964 Köpenick was relegated to the district league, and in November 1964 Ignaczak was drafted into military service for a year and a half. He completed this first at SC Dynamo Berlin, which only let him play in the reserve team. For the 1965/66 season to the BFC SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen branch , where Ignaczak could play in the GDR league.

After his discharge from the army, he registered with 1. FC Union Berlin in May 1966, which was promoted to the GDR league three weeks later. It was not until August 5, 1967, that the 1.81 m tall goalkeeper finally stood for the first time in the Intertoto game at Union Teplice (1: 1) in the goal of the league team. In the following league season 1967/68 he was the goalkeeper and replaced the previous number 1 Peter Blüher with 31 competitive appearances . At the end of the season, Ignaczak was also able to celebrate the greatest success of his football career by winning the GDR football cup . In the final against FC Carl Zeiss Jena on June 9, 1968, he was in the goal of the surprisingly victorious Iron Team .

Ignaczak played a total of seven years for 1. FC Union Berlin, including five seasons in the GDR league. He played 65 games in the top GDR soccer class and played 16 times in the GDR league. He was also in 13 GDR Cup games in the Union goal. Ignaczak played his last of 95 competitive games on June 13, 1973 in the league game against FC Vorwärts Frankfurt / O. , which lost his team 3-0 and was relegated from the league.

At the age of 29, Rainer Ignaczak said goodbye to high-performance sport. From 1974 to 1976 he was a player - coach at BSG Bergmann-Borsig Berlin , whose team (among other things, together with his former Unioner colleague Wolfgang Wruck ) he helped advance to the Berlin district league in 1975. In 1976 he joined the BSG Rotation Berlin , with which he was still active as a goalkeeper in 1982 and made it into the GDR league. At the end of the 1985/86 season Ignaczak ended his active time as a goalkeeper in rotation. As a hobby footballer, he was later still in goal for Sparta Lichtenberg , Tiefbau Berlin , and Hertha BSC . With the Hertha amateurs he played one more game in 1991/92 at the age of almost 50. The last station of his football career was the district division VfB Friedrichshain, where he worked as a coach from 2005 to February 2008.
