Rainer Kaube (born April 4, 1944 in Boizenburg / Elbe ) is a former German football player in the GDR .

Kaube got through the youth departments of BSG Aufbau Boizenburg and BSG Lokomotive Bützow into the junior department of SC Empor Rostock . After graduating from school, he completed an apprenticeship as a shipbuilder. 20-year-old made his debut chewing on 1 November 1964, the first team of the SC rise of the East German Cup match against TSG Wismar , came during the season 1964/65 the GDR Oberliga but only to a continued use as a center forward in the league game against the BSG motor Steinach on 3 April 1965th

Kaube then moved to the second-rate GDR league club BSG Stahl Riesa , with whom he was promoted to the league in 1967/68 . In the promotion season, the 1.78 m tall Kaube had played 28 of the 30 point games as a midfielder and scored two goals. In the league, Kaube completed all 26 season games in the 1968/69 and 1969/70 seasons and was also able to achieve three goals for his team in 1969/70, which achieved relegation in both seasons with two and three points ahead of the relegation ranks. 1970/71 Kaube then contributed with another 22 appearances for Riesa to the third league in a row, which only succeeded due to the better goal difference against relegated FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , before the 1971/72 season finally the descent of Riesa from the top division the GDR meant. After the last 26 completed games and one more goal, Kaube had played in a total of 100 league games for Riesa, but returned to Rostock after relegation. Initially, Kaube was used as a midfielder at Stahl Riesa, from 1971 he played in defense.

In Rostock, the soccer section of SC Empor had meanwhile been spun off from the overall club as FC Hansa Rostock , and Kaube played in 25th in 1972/73 and in another 21 league games for the Hanseatic League in 1973/74 , which placed in midfield in both seasons of the table. After a few attempts as a midfielder, Kaube finally established himself as the regular Libero of the Rostockers. After only ten league appearances in the 1974/75 season , in which Rostock was also relegated to the GDR league as the penultimate in the final table, Kaube finally ended his career at FC Hansa. He completed his last and 56th league game on March 8, 1975 in the match between FC Hansa Rostock and FC Carl Zeiss Jena (0-2) as a libero.

Kaube later worked as a football coach. In the 1980s he worked in the youth division of FC Hansa Rostock.
