Rainer Knussmann

Rainer Knußmann (born April 15, 1936 in Mainz ; † October 30, 2017 ) was a German anthropologist .

Knußmann received his doctorate in 1960 under Ilse Schwidetzky at the University of Mainz with a thesis on constitution and choice of partner . He was a professor of human biology and for many years director of the anthropological institute at the University of Hamburg . His best known writing is the textbook of anthropology and human genetics . He was also the editor of anthropology. Handbook of comparative human biology (Thieme, Stuttgart 1988).
