The Raja Laut is a two - masted gaff rigged wooden schooner .

history

The Raja Laut was built from 2005 at the GEK Carraz shipyard according to designs by Carraz and Bosgraaf in Amsterdam. The design is based on the design of classic European sailing yachts or smaller commercial sailors from this area of the 19th century. The hull is made of Ulin ( Eusideroxylon zwageri ), a rare ironwood native to the Malay region . It is planked with kraweel . The deck is made of Burmese teak , the superstructure made of Yellow Balau . Finally, the hull was painted gray, the superstructures are only provided with clear varnish.

With a total length of 31 m, the ship is one of the largest classic-style yachts in Asia. With a width of 7.20 m, it is measured at 150 tons. A total of five sails can be set in your rig , a mainsail with 125 m² and schooner sail with 89 m², plus a top sail with 30 m², a jib with 32 m² and a so-called jumbo of 44 m², a jib that can be equipped with a tree (US Naut. ).

Her highest speed under sail is estimated at 11 knots , while under machine a maximum of 10 knots is reached.

The name itself is of Malay origin and means "King of the Seas". This is intended to provide a reference to the history and maritime adventurer stories in Southeast Asia.

The Raja Laut is chartered in the Asian Pacific region, and with her six cabins she can accommodate a maximum of twelve passengers.

In 2011 the Raya Laut served as a double for the actually three-masted sailing ship Ayesha when filming the film The Men of the Emden .
