In May 1963, the move from Großengstingen to Philippsburg took place . Brigadier General T. E. Swain, Artillery Commander of the 5th US Corps , visited the battalion in Philippsburg in the fall of 1992 and was informed about the German features of the MARS / MLRS weapon system. The result was an invitation to practice under his leadership under the motto "Sharp shot and partnership" at the Grafenwoehr training area with 4th (US) Battalion 27th Field Artillery, Babenhausen . The exchange of sub-units and personnel took place between the associations at all levels down to the thrower crews. The crowning glory was the participation in a large demonstration shooting by the V US Corps, Stuttgart , in which French MLRS, US attack helicopters and combat aircraft were also involved.
In 1993 the battalion was moved from Philippsburg to Walldürn . Numerous professional soldiers had to be left behind in neighboring locations in a socially acceptable manner and officers and NCOs of the battalions that had previously been disbanded there (362 Panzergrenadier Battalion, 365 Panzer Artillery Battalion) had to be integrated into the new location.
With the dissolution of the 12th Panzer Division, Veitshöchheim , change of position on October 1, 1993 under the 10th Panzer Division , Sigmaringen . In December 2002 the active battalion was disbanded; Most of the battalion members found a subsequent use in the newly established logistics battalion 461. The 4th / 122nd remained active in the partially active "RakArtBtl 122 ta" in Hermeskeil . By taking the Heeresstruktur new army carried out the final resolution in December of 2006. The 4th / 122nd was integrated into the rocket launcher battery ( MARS ), the 4th / Artillery Battalion 295 of the Franco-German Brigade in 2006 .
