Ralf Raps (born October 10, 1960 in Cologne ) is a former German football player .

Career

Ralf Raps played as a goalkeeper for Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga and in the 2nd Bundesliga . For Frankfurter Eintracht, however, he only made one Bundesliga appearance in the 1981/82 season .

Raps grew up in the Groß-Gerau district of Dornheim (Hesse) and began playing football at his home club, SG Dornheim 1886 eV . As a C-youth he switched to Frankfurt Eintracht. In 1982 he moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to the then second division side Hannover 96. After two years as No. 2 behind regular goalkeeper Jürgen Rynio, he was the regular goalkeeper in the 84/85 season under coach Werner Biskup and played all 38 games. Hanover finished the season in second place and was promoted to the Bundesliga. It was followed in 1985/86, however, the immediate relegation, with Raps in 32 games in goal. In the following year 1986/87 Hanover succeeded under coach Jürgen Wähling the immediate promotion, in which Raps could only participate in 7 games. He played the following two seasons in the Bundesliga again as a regular goalkeeper: In 1988 Hannover easily reached 10th place, but in 1989 had to relegate again. After relegation, the contract, which was only valid for the 1st division and ran for another year, ended. Ralf Raps ended his career as a professional soccer player at the age of 28 and now devoted himself entirely to the sports marketing agency he founded in 1985. He played a total of 89 Bundesliga games and 45 second division games.

Ralf Raps, who was involved in the promotion to the Bundesliga in 1985 and 1987, was extremely popular with the fans of Hannover 96. His two direct successors in the Lower Saxony goal, Hans Wulf and Andreas Nagel , had a hard time with the fans. Only Jörg Sievers succeeded in gaining similar popularity after winning the DFB Cup in 1992 .
