Ralph Habib (born June 29, 1912 in Paris , † June 27, 1969 ibid) was a French screenwriter and film director .

life and work

Ralph Habib, born in Paris in 1912 as the son of Lebanese parents, first collected in the 1940s while editing, as technical director and as producer on projects such as the Josephine Baker comedy Fausse Alerte (1945) by director Jacques de Baroncelli , the Julien- Duvivier's drama Panik (1946) or the André Cerf film Si jeunesse savait (1947), before working as an assistant director for Le grand rendez-vous (1950), a war film by Jean Dréville , also as the second man behind the Camera changed.

With the police film The Great Unknown , he directed his first own feature film as a director in 1951. Several strong women's dramas followed, such as Damned To Love (1953) with Françoise Arnoul or A Whole Life (1955) with Jeanne Moreau .

Ralph Habib himself wrote the scripts for the films The Law of the Road (1956) and For Men Forbidden , and twice cast the French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant for the male lead. In the adventure film Nights in Tahiti (1958), which had a budget of 250,000 British pounds for the time , he relied on a number of experienced stars such as Martine Carol , Karlheinz Böhm , Serge Reggiani and Arletty .

In the 1960s he only took on a few directing jobs, such as the crime film Affäre Nabob with the international cast Paul Guers , Perrette Pradier , OE Hasse and Sonja Ziemann . His last feature film as a director was the German production Pension Clausewitz in 1967 with the actors Wolfgang Kieling , Maria Brockerhoff and Friedrich Schoenfelder .

Habib died on June 27, 1969, two days before his 57th birthday in Paris.
