Ranchos de Taos is a town of around 2,700 in Taos County in the US state of New Mexico .
location
Ranchos de Taos is located about six kilometers northeast of the city of Taos between the Carson National Forest and the Taos Indian Reservation at an altitude of about 2105 m . Rain (approx. 315 mm / year) falls mainly in the summer months; in winter it can snow.
Population and economy
Only half of the population has white ancestors; the other half have Latin American, Native American, and African American roots. Many are retirees or recipients of government grants; a few live from services of all kinds and from tourism.
history
A Spanish settlement with the name Las Trampas de Taos already existed in 1725. In a raid by the Comanches in 1760, 50 women were allegedly kidnapped and the men killed. In 1772 a church was built; the construction of the current church was completed in 1815.
Attractions
- The place is a tourist attraction with its Indian-Mexican cityscape; he has an artist colony.
- The adobe church San Francisco de Asis, built in the Spanish-Indian colonial style in the 18th century, is located a few kilometers south of the village.

The grave of the American actor Dennis Hopper, who died in Los Angeles in 2010 , is in the Jesus Nazareno Cemetery .
