Norbert Elsner

Norbert Elsner (born October 11, 1940 in Hermsdorf in Silesia ; † June 16, 2011 in Göttingen ) was a German zoologist and neurobiologist .

Life

Norbert Elsner was founded in 1967 on the math and science faculty of the University of Cologne with the work "The neuromuscular basics of advertising behavior of the Red Leg grasshopper ( Gomphocerippus rufus )" to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . After a PostDoc at Makerere College School in Kampala , Uganda (1968), he worked at the Zoological Faculty of the University of Copenhagen (1971). This was followed by a position at the biological faculty at the University of Oregon (1972). In 1974 he qualified as a professor at Cologne University in the field of zoology . In 1978, he received a call to the Georg-August University of Göttingen as professor of zoology and anthropology. Elsner was director of the neurobiology department .

Elsner's research focus and area of ​​work were neuro-, sensory and behavioral physiology with special consideration of the neural and sensory foundations of acoustic communication.

Elsner was Vice President of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) and, since 2000, a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle (Saale) .
