Randy Bowen

Randy Bowen (born December 2, 1961 in the United States of America ) is an American designer and sculptor of pop culture .

life and work

Bowen graduated to 1980 High School in Lewiston (Idaho) . Here he was instructed for the first time in the molding and casting of bronze figures. From 1980 to 1984 he studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts , then at the University of Idaho .

In his early years, Bowen worked for a company that specialized in making oversized Christmas displays for shopping malls. His actual career began with the production of molds for “ garage kits ” with which well-known characters were manufactured without a license and sold at “ Comic book conventions ” ( German  trade fairs for comics ). He established himself as a pioneer in the production of sculptures of pop culture icons, which he made from synthetic resin and published in licensed and limited editions. He designed the shapes of a large number of miniature busts and statues with characters from film series such as Star Wars , Alien , Predator as well as numerous characters from the respective fields of Dark Horse Comics , Marvel Comics , DC Comics , Disney and many other novels , comic strips and independent comic book publications, to advertising projects for the sporting goods manufacturer Nike . Bowen is also known as the "Father of Comics statues" (German father of the comics statues ).

In 1982 he founded the Bowen Designs company , where he worked alongside other freelancers as the key designer and sculptor. The company was converted into a public limited company in 1991.

Awards

  • In 1998 Bowen's sculpture "Bionica" was nominated for the "Best Three-Dimensional Art" category of the Chesley Awards .

Bowens sculpture of Superman was a part of the film sets of Jerry's apartment in the comedy series Seinfeld .
